15″ Refoam + spider Kit for Cerwin Vega 217r and many HED models, options
I can customize this kit if desired. As pictured, it is designed to repair the woofers on speakers like the 1st version 217R with the 153 woofer which had gray foam, tan gaskets, and plain dustcaps, and was mounted inside the cabinet. There was also a very different second version of the 217R which had one tweeter instead of two on the front. Most of the woofers in these old-but-gold speakers seem to be needing spiders, so this kit includes new spiders, and the tan gaskets they used on the “inside mount” woofers. This kit will fit most woofers that used the flat attach foams, however Cerwin made many design variations and part substitutions with their speakers, and Heppner (the company that built the woofers for cerwin vega) did the same. So, going by speaker model, and/or woofer model, isn’t always enough. The BEST way to verify parts and fitment, is to check with me, and I will probably ask for pictures. Some steel framed woofers used a taller spider. And a picture will let me know. If you prefer red (red over gray actually) foam, let me know and I’ll substitute it for you. If you prefer dustcaps with the logo, let me know and I’ll put those in instead. This kit comes with 3035 glue for the foams, black glue for the dustcaps, and epoxy for the spider. 15″ DVC! Dual 4 ohm recone kit for Cerwin Vega DCW15 DC15 1515
These are the correct DUAL VOICE COIL recone kits for the DCW15 woofer used in the DC15 and 1515 Cerwin Vega speakers. The “DC” in the name actually referenced the fact that the woofers were dual voice coil, and the crossovers actually split the signal and ran different frequencies to each coil. Up till now, all the kits listed for these woofers all used the DLP (dual lead parallel coils, which are different. DLP coils and only have one set of leads. These have dual sets of leads to recone and re-hook up properly. These have the older style red/red foams but are in perfect shape. I came across a large number of old stock recone kits for Cerwin Vega. Strokers, 18″ woofers, and misc. Most of these are pre-2010. Kits have changed over the years, and not always for the better. 10″ Recone Kit for Cerwin Vega DX3 DXW10 DXW-10 woofer 8 ohms
10″ 8 ohm recone lit for the models listed. Kits include everything in the picture including 4 piece shim kit which allows accurate shimming of any coil. Notes: These new 10″ cones look and fit great, with red over gray foam like most originals, however these cones do have what looks like a slight watermark. It is a slight color/dot distortion from the mold. It’s not terrible, but it is there, and my entire production run has this. I tried to detail it in the picture. Really only visible in certain lighting, but I wanted to point it out. Also, with many of this series woofers, they came originally with several different spiders. The most common was the 5.9″, and this kit includes that common size. Some came with a spider with a smaller 4.9″ OD. I do have those spiders if you want them. Just let me know when you order, and I’m happy to substitute those in your kit. I’ll include enough epoxy, and glues to do your woofer. If you order multiple kits, I’ll include bigger bottles of glue. One epoxy will do two woofers. Black glue for dustcap and lead wires, white glue for foam to frame. 15″ 4 Ohm Recone Kit for Cerwin Vega 15W5 woofer E-715 and LS-15 (see notes)
Recone kit for the Cerwin Vega 15W5 used in the E715 and LS-15. Red over gray foam like original. Precision voice coils, on ALUMINUM formers like the originals, and wound like the originals. Both the E715 and LS-15 came with several different woofers, so you will need to pull one out, and verify the model of the woofers you have in your speakers. If you have a woofer model# starting with “wofh”, these kits will NOT fit. Now, if you do have the 15W5 woofer, hold on to your hat, because “the book” on these woofers has been wrong, for decades. Every other kitmaker has listed the recone kit for these woofers, as 8 ohms. Well, every 15W5 myself and others have torn down and checked (and it’s been MANY) they are actually FOUR ohm woofers. And on close inspection of the coils, we’ve worked out which ones they used. And that specific 4 ohm voice coil, is included in this kit. Now it’s possible that these woofers also came in 8 ohms, but I haven’t found one yet. The best thing to do, is measure the ohms of your woofer. (note: the ohm rating of the whole speaker is irrelevant, 8 ohm speakers can have 4 ohm woofers, and vice versa) So you have to take the woofer out, disconnect it, and measure it. If it’s around 3.3 or 3.4 dcr on a handheld meter, it’s a 4 ohm woofer. If it’s more like 7 ohms, it’s an 8 ohm woofer. If you do have an 8 ohm woofer, let me know and I’ll make you an 8 ohm kit. But I’ll bet you a box of donuts, it’s going to be 4 ohms. Making these the only correct kits for your woofers, anywhere. This listing includes the stock type tan/yellow spiders. I also have black spiders available (see my AT15 kits) The black ones are stiffer. The stock stiffness for these woofers is “c”. but the stock spiders are a pretty light “c”, almost a “b”. The yellow ones I supply are a hair stiffer than many replacements, and don’t distort after a pounding. However my black ones are a heavy C, a little stiffer yet. So if you are going to pound the bejesus out of these with a 80 pound 1000 watt Crown amplifier, I’d suggest the black spiders. But if you’re using just a regular HT receiver or something with 100 or 200 watts per channel, then I’d say go with the tan/yellow ones. If you do want the black ones, just message me when you buy and let me know, and I’ll pack those in the kit for you. 12″ 4 Ohm Recone Kit for Cerwin Vega 122w2 woofer D7 D5 U321 others
Recone kit for the Cerwin Vega 122W2 woofer. Red over gray foam like original. All new high precision voice coils, on ALUMINUM formers like the originals. Cerwin used aluminum formers for a reason. They are stronger and dissipate heat better than kapton, which is what everyone else uses in their kits these days. Several years, and more recones than I can count went into developing these to provide kits that not only take the pounding that I know you’re going to give them, but also match the t/s parameters of the originals. These cones are pressed rather than pulp, so they are thinner but more dense, and retain the same mass as original. The “dot” pattern on these cones is slightly more pronounced which you can see up close. I have sold MANY of these kits, and MANY woofers using these kits, and everyone has been extremely happy with their performance. These spiders are initially stiffer than the tan ones, so they do take a few hours to break in, however the x-max is identical.
