The scarcity of good, honest techs who can do good and reasonably priced restoration/rebuild of audio equipment inspired me to create this restoration kit. In today’s day and age, it is difficult to find a knowledgeable technician who can service your audio gear properly. I have seen many poor quality restorations of equipment that cost way too much for their owners. In 99% of the cases, only a few parts were replaced, instead of a full and proper restoration job.A proper restoration must replace all electrolytic capacitors on all boards. Do not fall for partial kits that restore just one PCB (power supply, power amp, etc.). This is not a good or proper way to restore your audio equipment. It is the same as with car tires; one should never replace just one tire and keep the other worn-out tires on. A proper rebuild requires a full recap of all PCBs.On the other hand, if one succeeds in finding a good tech, the wait time is usually 6-12 months for the unit to be serviced, and costs are sky-high. I have been servicing audio equipment for many years and have developed deep respect for all good equipment. Knowing how amazing and warm these units can sound, I decided to put together this kit. 2 New 18000 uf 80v Capacitors Hafler DH-200 DH-220 Main Filter 2″ 51mm
Up for sale here is this set of 2 brand new Nippon Chemi-Con 18000 uf 80v capacitors. These are drop-in replacements for the Hafler DH-200 and Hafler DH-220, but they will work in some other gear as well. They fit the old clamps perfectly! These are the same capacitors I use when I am rebuilding vintage gear. These measure 51mm (2″) in diameter and 80mm (3.15″) tall, and use screw terminals. The screws are included. These are a nice upgrade for the original 10000 uf caps, and will work great in their place. You can upgrade the original diodes but it’s not usually necessary. These are authentic Made in USA capacitors. Please note that the screws on these are sometimes thicker than the screws on the old main caps, so you may need to enlarge the terminals on the receiver in order to accommodate this. You can drill out the old ring terminals and center mounting piece with a 5mm drill bit if you want, or just replace the old ring terminals, or cut the ring terminals open to make them into spade terminals. Please see my pictures for details. The current batch of capacitors I am selling has 38C31L codes on them, and the boxes are dated 2335, so these were made the 35th week of 2023. A note about installation: Main filter capacitors are usually used to provide the positive and negative rails to the amplifier section, so one of them will appear to be wired backwards (with positive to chassis ground). This is normal. Before you replace your capacitors, take some clear pictures of the wiring so you will know how to connect the new ones. If your equipment starts blowing fuses after replacing the main filter capacitors, you probably wired one backwards. US shipping and handling is $10, and international is $28. Recap Kit for EPI 100 100v 100W Speakers New MPT Polypropylene Film Capacitors
Up for sale here is this recap kit for a pair of EPI 100, M100, 100V, 100W, 50, 60, 70, 90, 101, 105, 120, 120, 150, 200, A70, A110, A120, or A200 speakers. This will let you completely recap two (2) of these EPI speakers. These are brand new Supertech MPT (metallized polypropylene film) capacitors, which are super-high-quality and will sound nice and clear. There are two 10 uf 250v caps, one for each speaker. The old caps are pretty bad by this point, but these new film caps will get your speakers singing again! These are fairly easy to install as long as you know what you’re doing. You will need a decent soldering iron, solder, a Philips screwdriver, wire cutters, and a hot glue gun or rubber cement to aid in mounting the caps. Please see my pictures for details.
