Transistor Radio Dial String Repair Book – Diagrams, Tips and Tricks
The idea for this book came when I was struggling to get a friend’s radio dial pointer to work right. The cord had broken. I didn’t have a diagram, I didn’t have the right replacement string, and I didn’t have a clue about how to get the radio to tune stations again. Eventually I got it working, and started pouring over diagrams to see what I could learn about the subject. As you can see by flipping through this book, there are an astonishing number of ways to move a tuning capacitor and a pointer. In fact, when I finished the first draft of the book I spent a number of hours just thumbing through it and marveling at the many ways there are to get the job done. Some designs are straight-forward, others will remind you of Rube Goldberg. A few are downright elegant. I have hundreds and hundreds of cord diagrams in my library. Many, but not all of them are printed here. Having to draw the line somewhere, I left out some of the “less collectible” sets, which I grant you is a subjective exercise. If you have a favorite that you think I should include in the next edition, let me know, and I’ll see what I can do. The reproductions are from a variety of out-of-print sources, and their original quality ranged from “camera-ready” to downright raggedy. I have done my best to digitally enhance their readability. In some cases, the results are actually better, and bigger than the originals. Thanks for your continued support, and good hunting!
