Up for sale here is this complete recap kit for the Teac A-3440 reel-to-reel tape deck. This includes replacements for all the electrolytic capacitors in the A-3440, including the motor start capacitor and 5 “spark killer” capacitors. The motor start capacitor is replaced with individual yellow film caps, and the spark killer caps are replaced with capacitors and resistors in series. The kit also includes 10 transistors (4 KSC2383, 3 KSC2073, 1 KSA940) to replace the more failure-prone transistors. There are five individual bags of parts, with the kits for each board mostly separated to make installation easier. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts. The capacitors are 105° Panasonic FC, Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, Wima film, and Supertech MPT film at the same uf ratings (except the 7 uf caps are replaced with 8.2 uf) and the same or higher voltage ratings. These are the same parts I use when I rebuild vintage gear. Obviously the A-3440 needs a lot of mechanical work for a restoration, and lots of new rubber parts, and this kit does not include any of that, just the capacitors and some transistors. Replacing the capacitors is fairly easy, and I will include a basic instruction sheet that explains how capacitors are replaced, but it is not a step-by-step guide, just a general one. The A-3440 is a pretty complicated piece of equipment, so if you have not worked on vintage gear before, this is probably not what you want to start on. You should know what you’re doing and have a decent soldering iron and a dim-bulb tester with a 60W or 100W incandescent bulb.
