Bose 550 Complete Rebuild Kit High-Quality Spatial Receiver Recap Set
Up for sale here is this rebuild kit for the Bose 550 Spatial Receiver. This includes replacements for all electrolytic and tantalum capacitors in the Bose 550, as well as replacements for 2 transistors that often need replacing. All capacitors are Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, Panasonic FC, Wima film, and two Nichicon VR 6800 uf 50v main filter capacitors. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts, the same parts I use when I work on vintage stereo gear. I will include surprisingly well-written instructions, but this is moderately complicated, and you should know what you’re doing and have a decent soldering iron and a dim-bulb tester with a 40W, 60W, or 100W incandescent bulb. This kit may not fix your receiver, but it’s pretty likely that it will, and it will definitely help it run better. Please see my pictures for details. Bose 550 restoration kit repair service recap capacitor upgrade transistor
The scarcity of good, honest techs who can do good and reasonably priced restoration/rebuild of audio equipment inspired me to create this restoration kit. In today’s day and age, it is difficult to find a knowledgeable technician who can service your audio gear properly. I have seen many poor quality restorations of equipment that cost way too much for their owners. In 99% of the cases, only a few parts were replaced, instead of a full and proper restoration job.A proper restoration must replace all electrolytic capacitors on all boards. Do not fall for partial kits that restore just one PCB (power supply, power amp, etc.). This is not a good or proper way to restore your audio equipment. It is the same as with car tires; one should never replace just one tire and keep the other worn-out tires on. A proper rebuild requires a full recap of all PCBs.On the other hand, if one succeeds in finding a good tech, the wait time is usually 6-12 months for the unit to be serviced, and costs are sky-high. I have been servicing audio equipment for many years and have developed deep respect for all good equipment. Knowing how amazing and warm these units can sound, I decided to put together this kit. It includes very good upgrades and improvements that must be done to the unit. This restoration kit will make a huge difference in the sound quality. Vintage Oiled Walnut Cabinet from Crown by Jeln. 6 unit rack mount cabinet. Standard 19” rack fitment. Includes 8 original rack screws. Depth behind rack flange is roughly 9.25”, but cabinet is open back, so if your unit is deeper, it can protrude out to the rear. That said, this Crown cabinet is designed for Crown vintage components and should be the appropriate depth for those units. Cabinet dimensions are roughly 12.25” tall, 21.25” wide, and 10.1” deep. Weighs about 15 lbs before packaging. Dome marks and scratches are present, as the unit is over 50 years old and used. Please browse through the images for overall condition. No returns.
