Up for sale here is this preamplifier boards rebuild set for a Pioneer SX-1050. This is all the parts you need to rebuild the four preamp boards in the Pioneer SX-1050–the AWM-089 filter amp board, AWG-040 flat amp board, the AWG-041 tone amp board, and the AWS-094 switch assembly board (only one cap on that board). Over time the preamp boards start developing issues with transistors and capacitors. The old parts are weak and failing. We will make them new again! This kit includes all 47 capacitors and all 12 transistors. It does NOT include replacements for the 2SK30 FETs, which don’t need to be replaced unless they’re malfunctioning. These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts. The capacitors are Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, and Wima film caps at the correct uf and the same or higher voltage ratings, and the transistors are new Fairchild/Onsemi and are the correct subs for the original transistors/diodes. These are not cheap Made in China parts, they are extremely high-quality and they are what I use when I rebuild Pioneer gear. Frankly, “recapping” is a waste of time if you’re not going to replace the transistors as well. A lot of times the transistors age worse than the caps, so you should definitely change out the transistors while you’re in there. If you have a crackle on one or both channels that goes away when you pull out the rear preamp jumpers, it’s probably a bad preamp transistor. I will include a surprisingly well-written instruction sheet, but this is a pretty complicated repair, so if you don’t have much experience with this, buy the kit and take it to a professional. You should definitely have a fair amount of soldering experience and have a decent soldering iron and a dim-bulb tester with 100W bulb, as well as the usual tools. Please see my pictures for details. I have been servicing Pioneer units for a while. With years I’ve developed deep respect toward Pioneer gear . It is a pity to see how many units are suffering from always failing incandescent bulbs! How much money is wasted for services to replace those incandescent bulbs over and over again!
